Understand your metabolism. Get accurate information on the number of calories you burn each day — on resting and exercise days. Determine calories needed to reach and maintain a healthy weight. Identify the minimum number of calories needed without slowing down your metabolism. Optimize your metabolism.
If you google metabolism, it’s likely you’ll run into words like miracle, storm, revolution, reset, reboot. Metabolism is a buzzword and has inched its way to the spotlight. Click-bait words haven’t fallen behind.
Simply put metabolism is what converts food and nutrients into energy. Our metabolisms don’t “shut down”. In fact, our metabolism works 24 hours every day, 7 days each week, and everyone’s metabolism works differently.
We all have friends or family members who have the crazy ability to eat pizzas, burgers, and all sorts of high-fat, high-calorie foods without gaining a pound. Many of us remember our teenage years when boxes of donuts didn’t phase us. Remember, though, health isn’t determined by a number on a scale or BMI. And thinness doesn’t mean wellness. How fast, average, or slow your metabolism works is determined mostly by genes.
Individual metabolic rates and calorie needs differ based on genetics, gender, age, body composition, and exercise level. Likewise, health status and certain medical conditions affect metabolism. Metabolic differences often affect weight loss or gain, with slower metabolisms making weight loss harder and fast metabolisms making weight gain difficult.
When we talk about Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR), we are talking about the minimum number of calories your body needs to function. Your total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is determined by your RMR. A registered dietitian nutritionist on our team will test your RMR with the ReeVue®. This can give your online certified nutritionist your individual calorie needs for weight loss, weight gain, weight maintenance, or improved sport performance. Based on this information, we create individualized diet plans to optimize your health.
By determining your Resting Metabolic Rate with the ReeVue®, your personal virtual dietitian can develop a tailor-made nutrition plan for you that works with your metabolism and body composition. This includes recommendations for activity levels and/or calorie intake.

Many use the terms ‘dietitian’ and ‘nutritionist’ interchangeably. Be aware that only a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) meets rigorous academic requirements with clinical training. To be called an RDN, you must have a degree from an accredited university. Our team of virtual dietitians must stay informed of guidelines set by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to maintain their certification as well as provide our patients with expert online nutrition counseling.
