Strategies to Make Time to Eat Well, Feel More Energized from Online Nutritionist

As virtual dietitians, a common complaint of our patients, in particular women, is the constant feeling of being tired and worn down. In the age of do everything and get it done now, it’s no wonder we feel frazzled.

It’s time to be mindful of what we’re doing and make choices that support our mental and physical wellness. None of these are radical, but in a world that pulls you in a thousand ways, they can be.

  1. Pick what you want to eat at a restaurant. Yes. This might seem revolutionary, but honestly, eating leftovers off everyone’s plate isn’t the ideal way to get your nutritional needs met. This is also a great way to get your family to try new things. Pick a fun appetizer, something different, for everyone to try. Share entrees. This encourages adventurous eating for everyone and gives you a chance to eat what you want!
  2. Be mindful during meals. Meal time shouldn’t be juggling time. Turn off the TV and your phone. Put away your kids’ homework folder or your boss’s latest report. Sit down and enjoy a meal. Nutrition isn’t only about WHAT we eat, but also HOW we eat.
  3. Value rest. Being busy is a national pastime now. But being busy isn’t necessarily effective. Challenge yourself to take a break.  Say, ‘No.’  Value downtime. Your brain and body need it.
  4. Move… every day. This doesn’t mean joining a gym (though some people love that). Fit movement into your everyday activities — playing at the park with kids, taking a lunchtime powerwalk with co-workers, joining a city league sports team, doing Yoga online. Value your body and the beautiful things it can do to keep you healthy.
  5. Improve your body self-esteem. We’re taught from a young age to hate our bodies. It’s time to celebrate the diverse, beautiful bodies in the world. Write down all the amazing things your body allows you to do (hug your friends, walk up a flight of stairs, dance salsa, live independently).

In online nutrition therapy, we work with our patients to develop sustainable, healthy habits to support wellness and weight loss goals.  We can provide you with strategies to improve your body self-esteem and health status. Most importantly, we value you, your unique health needs, food traditions, and fitness goals. Because you are beautiful.
